My son who is a senior this year in high school here in Indiana has received early acceptance to NOTRE DAME! He is interested in computer engineering. Notre Dame had offered a very nice financial package for him. He was also excepted to Rose Hulman, Purdue and University of Pittsburgh.
We have now made campus tours of all the campuses. Notre Dame is still at the top of his list, but we worry for him to have to carry so much debt. He would be looking at about $20K per year the way it looks right now. Rose would have been about $10K higher with a debt load of $35K per year and at Purdue we are looking at about $8k debt. Now Pitt is paying him the most if he goes there and would be having everything paid for.
So we are weighting the options of ND,Purdue and Pitt. vs the debt he will need to take on. It seems everyone has a different opinion.
We are waiting on a announcement from Purdue on a department scholarship he was asked to sigh up for.
